Herb Lubalin Study Center of Design and Typography

January, 2018

We are thrilled and honored that the work of Base Press is now a part of the permanent collection of the Herb Lubalin Study Center of Design and Typography at the Cooper Union in New York. Growing up as a young graphic designer while in college, Herb Lubalin was one of my absolute design heroes. I pored over issues of U&lc (Upper and Lower Case), enthralled by practically every page. In fact, I still remember (rather vividly, though time and distance have taken their toll!), while on a senior-year field trip to New York, specifically making a beeline to Cooper Union, a school that I had read so much about and apparently where many of my design heroes of the time had attended (Herb Lubalin, Seymour Chwast, Milton Glaser, etc.). During that visit in May 1981 I learned that Herb Lubalin had recently passed away. I have visited the Center and donated work before. And, now it is an absolute honor for the work of Base Press to be included in this important collection.
