Reverting to Type 2020 Exhibition

December, 2020

Way beyond honored to be included in the Reverting to Type 2020: Protest Posters Exhibition at Standpoint Gallery in London, UK. The project was organized and curated by New North Press, and is “an exhibition of approx. 200 contemporary letterpress protest posters from 105 artists in 16 countries. These are artworks with something to say: sounding a warning signal about the global climate crisis, railing against fake news and surveillance capitalism, calling out racism, sexism and fighting for equal opportunities and, of course, reacting to the coronavirus pandemic.”

The exhibition included the “Not everything that is faced can be changed…” quote by James Baldwin, printed during Summer 2020. While doing some information gathering and research in the aftermath of the George Floyd killing at the hands of the police, I came across the documentary, “I am not your Negro,” on Black American poet, writer and civil rights activist, James Baldwin. This quote from the film resonated with me: “Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.” Not only does it speak to the social and racial unrest going on in America—and worldwide—but I think it also pertains to so many facets of life.

Also included in the exhibition were the “Print(ink) is my form of social distancing” print as well as the “No shoes, no shirt, no mask, no service” print.
